Vox VT40X is a modeling guitar amp that offers a range of virtual amplifiers, effects, and features in a compact, portable package.

This particular amp is a part of the Valvetronix series and is a very interesting and unique amplifier with awesome features and sound quality.

In this review, I’ll dive into the VT40X’s capabilities and explore its amp models, effects, sound quality, and features in detail to help you decide if it’s the right choice for your needs.

Design

Vox VT40X is a beautiful amplifier and it combines modern and classic design which I like.

The back of the amp is plain and the front panel of this combo is gorgeous with a Vox-like speaker grill cover and logos for Vox and Valvetronix.

All the controls and inputs are on the top of this combo and it’s packed with buttons, switches, and knobs.

It’s a very minimalistic, modern, yet classic-looking modeling combo and if you like the look and design of Vox amps, you will like it too.

Amp Models

One of the key features of the Vox VT40X modeling combo is its selection of amp models, which allow you to virtually recreate the sound of classic and contemporary amplifiers.

The VT40X offers a total of 8 amp models, ranging from clean tones to high-gain distorted sounds, and three slots for user-generated sounds.

These amp models include Vox, Marshall, and Fender amps and you can have a crisp clean sound as well as heavy guitar tones.

VT40X’s amp models are designed to recreate the tonal characteristics and responsiveness of their real-world counterparts. This means that you can get a similar level of expression and dynamic response when playing through the VT40X as you would with a physical amp.

Additionally, you can control different amp settings with full EQ, gain, volume, and power volume knobs.

So, you have total freedom to choose whatever sound you want with this amplifier and tweak it to your liking.

Effects

Vox VT40X also offers a variety of effects to shape and enhance your tone. It comes with all the effects you want to have, including overdrive, distortion, modulation, and delay.

These effects can be controlled and adjusted using the dedicated knobs that allow you to create the sound you want.

Effects are divided into three sections and each section includes various effects. And you can choose one effect from each section which means you can use three effects simultaneously.

For example, you can have overdrive, tremolo, and reverb on at the same time and I like this feature. This amp offers four types of reverbs – room, spring, hall, and plate reverbs.

I love how many amps and effects are included in this Vox combo and it is one of the most feature-packed amps in this category.

How Does Vox VT40X Sound?

The sound of the amp is the most important aspect when reviewing guitar amplifiers and I can say that VT40X produces amazing sound.

In short, this combo delivers a wide range of high-quality tones that can cover a variety of genres and playing styles. Vox VT40X’s amp models are designed to accurately recreate the tonal characteristics and responsiveness of their real-world counterparts.

All the amp models produce very realistic and rich tones and you can get great clean, crunchy, or lead guitar tones.

The only issue I have with this guitar combo is the heavy tones but I don’t mind it because it’s not a metal amp.

Effects are also great-sounding and offer a wide range of options. Whether you’re looking to add a little extra flavor to your tone or create complex, multi-layered sounds, the VT40X has something to offer.

It’s just amazing how well-made this amplifier is. No matter what tone you dial in or the effect you use, it sounds amazing.

Overall, I think this is one of the best-sounding modeling amps on the market today.

Features

Not only it has many options and great sound, but Vox VT40X also comes with awesome features that make it a more desirable amp.

First of all, it uses a 12AX7 preamp tube which gives it a tube amp flavor. And you can really feel it when you play this combo.

Then, you can change the bias shift from cold to hot which is another tonal option. And also, you can choose between Class A or A/B type of sound. This is one of my favorite features.

You can save presets on four different banks which makes it a great amp to use on stage.

There are many great features in this amp but these are the ones I decided to mention.

The only downside for me is that it comes with a 10″ speaker. Although the sound is great, I think it should be equipped with a 12″ speaker.

Final Thoughts

Vox VT40X is a digital modeling amplifier that offers a wide range of tonal options and features in a compact, portable package. This is one of the best guitar combos for recording, practicing, or using on stage. The sound is awesome, has a preamp tube, you can save presets, and so on.
